  • U.S. citizens can enroll in STEP so the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate can contact them with safety info and advisories.

🗂️ 2. Essential Documents to Carry in a Crisis

Have hard copies and digital backups of:

✔ Passport (plus extra photocopies)
✔ Travel insurance policy and emergency contact numbers
✔ Embassy/Consulate contact info for your nationality
✔ Local emergency phone numbers
✔ Copies of itineraries (flights, hotels, tours)
✔ Any medical info (prescriptions, allergies)

Governments emphasize keeping documents safe and accessible, especially if you might evacuate.

Stay in touch with:

  • Family/Friends at home

  • Your embassy or consulate

  • Travel insurer and airline/tour operator

Keep a printed contact list — phones may run out of battery or lose service during conflict.

In a rapidly deteriorating situation, have a ready bag with:

  • Non-perishable food

  • Medications (enough to last several days)

  • Flashlight and batteries

  • First-aid items

  • Roads/airports are blocked or closed.
