I still remember my first international trip.
The excitement.
The nervousness.
The overpacked suitcase.
The printed tickets. The backup of the backup of the backup.
I thought travel was about seeing a new country. I didn’t know it was about meeting a new version of myself.
There are things I wish someone had told me before I boarded that first flight.
Not about visas. Not about currency. But about what travel actually does to you.
1️⃣ You Will Feel Stupid — and That’s Normal 😅
You might get overwhelmed at the airport
Look around confusedly searching for the right check in counters
Feel stupid, trying to figure out self check in and printing your own baggage tags
You might fumble at the immigration counter.
You might stand on the wrong side of an escalator.
You will feel out of place.
And that’s okay.
Travel humbles you first — then teaches you.
2️⃣ The World Is Kinder Than the News Makes It Look
Before my first trip, I carried silent fear.
What if people are rude? What if I get lost? What if I don’t fit in?
What I found instead:
• Strangers giving directions.
• Café owners smiling at my confusion.
• Locals helping without being asked.
The world is far more generous than we think.
The decision is yours
Confusing, jargon-packed, and time-consuming. Or quick, direct, and actually enjoyable.
Easy choice.
There’s a reason over 4 million professionals read Morning Brew instead of traditional business media. The facts hit harder, it’s built to be skimmed, and for once, business news is something you actually look forward to reading.

3️⃣ You Don’t Need to See Everything
I used to plan like I was preparing for an exam.
Landmark after landmark.
Museum after museum.
Exhausted by Day 3.
Now I know:
You don’t have to conquer a city. You can just sit in it.
Some of my best memories are:
• Watching people cross a busy intersection.
• Sitting quietly in a park. Maybe with a coffee
• Eating something unfamiliar.
Slow travel changes you.
4️⃣ You Will Learn More About Yourself Than the Destination
Travel reveals:
• How patient you are.
• How flexible you are.
• How you react when plans fail.
• How you handle uncertainty.
Missed trains.
Delayed flights.
Unexpected weather.
Travel is a mirror.
The Year-End Moves No One’s Watching
Markets don’t wait — and year-end waits even less.
In the final stretch, money rotates, funds window-dress, tax-loss selling meets bottom-fishing, and “Santa Rally” chatter turns into real tape. Most people notice after the move.

5️⃣ Pack Lighter — In Every Way

Picture by Me at Hampi, India
I overpacked clothes.
And I also overpacked expectations.
I thought every moment had to be magical. Like the Instagram posts I see.
It doesn’t.
Some days are ordinary.
Some days are inconvenient.
Some days are messy.
And that’s still beautiful. Such moments make memories that you want to brag about to friends 😄.
6️⃣ Money Matters — But So Does Energy
Often, I chose the cheapest options.
Long layovers.
Complicated routes.
Uncomfortable schedules.
Now I know:
Saving a few hundreds is not worth losing 10 hours of joy.
Sometimes the “better” choice is the one that preserves your energy.
7️⃣ You Will Come Back Different
No one told me this.
You don’t just return with souvenirs.
You return with:
• Expanded perspective.
• Gratitude.
• A little more courage.
After a major health scare, I understood something deeply:
There is no “perfect time” to travel.
There is only the time you choose to go.
If I Could Whisper One Thing to First-Time Travelers…

Picture taken by Me
Don’t wait until:
• You feel rich enough.
• You feel confident enough.
• You feel fearless enough.
You will grow into those things because you travel — not before.
Your first international trip will not be perfect.
It will be transformational.
And years later, you won’t remember the currency conversion mistakes.
You’ll remember the feeling of takeoff.
The first stamp in your passport.
The realization that the world is bigger than your fears ❤️
If this is your first international trip this year…Reply and tell me where you’re going. I’d love to cheer you on.
Happy Travels!
